Aquaculture, meet the Desert
Nutreco announced recently that it has invested in Israeli startup ViAqua Therapeutics as part of its focus on combating disease in the aquaculture industry.
ViAqua is developing the first orally-administered treatment for shrimp that improves resistance to viral diseases, including White Spot Syndrome Virus, and prevents viral epidemics. The solution offered by ViAqua, which was founded in 2014, uses a proprietary particle to disable malicious infections. In the future, ViAqua intends to expand to include more species, like other shellfish such as lobster and crab and small fish. Nutreco will work directly with ViAqua to effectively deliver the solution to the market through their developed distribution channels.
IDB Invest invest for the first time in a Fintech
IDB Invest, the institutional private sector investment arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, recently made its first investment of $3 million in MONI, a startup of digital financial services that operates mainly in Argentina. In addition, the operation includes the option of investing $2 million more in the next round of the startup capital. According to IDB Invest, the funding will allow MONI expand its portfolio of credit in sectors underbanked, as well as to expand its product offerings to further develop the credit market. In that context, the investment represents one further initiative with which the IDB Group seeks to strengthen the financial inclusion in the region. MONI has already awarded more than 500 thousand loans in Argentina, emphasizing efficiency and ease-of-use of its mobile app. In addition, this FinTech also has facilities for payment for services from a mobile phone.
